Smart Cities in Europe
In November 2011 the book Smart City dynamics was published, with a focus on the topics of energy and climate change. There are still many different views on what a Smart City really is. However, many cities have already started or are about to begin this challenging process, together with their partners. Despite the differences, they are all dealing with similar questions, such as: What are the first steps in the process? Who are the right stakeholders? How can synergies be created between sectors? And how to stimulate a new mindset?
This publication will support the local authorities and businesses on their way to energy-efficient and low-carbon cities, by providing an overview of the relevant steps to take in their Smart City business plans. Experts from different fields in the public and the private sector and from several European cities share their views on best practices and concrete actions to take. This will certainly inspire anyone involved in the transition towards Smart Cities. The publication includes interviews with Amsterdam Innovation Motor, IBM, the Climate Group, KPN, Stockholm Royal Seaport and Sustainable Glasgow.
